Most homeowners don't know what landscaping costs until they get their first bids, and that's not their fault. Nobody publishes it. Here's what we know from doing this every day: a budget under $25K usually covers part of what people picture for their yard, not all of it.
That's fine. It just changes what the smartest first move is. If you're focused on planting, Small Scope gets you expert guidance on what to plant and where. If you want paths, patios, and planting that all work together, you need a cohesive design before you build anything.

Sage Coast Plant Palette
Answer a short questionnaire about your site and style, and get a custom palette from our curated library. About half California native, all waterwise.
Base Map + Virtual Consultation
A base map of your priority area, an interactive plant palette with photos and care details, a 30 minute call with a designer, written session notes, and our nursery list.
On Site Visit
One hour at your property with your printed base map and palette. We mark up the map with specific placement guidance and answer questions on the spot.
2D Planting Layout
A scaled 2D conceptual planting layout with a plant legend, quantities, pot sizes, and water needs. Ready to shop from or share with your installer.
Planting Day Support
Help with substitutions and plant placement on installation day, for clients working with an installation contractor.
Sage Coast layouts are scaled 2D conceptual layouts that communicate design intent. They are not construction documents or engineered drawings. Your licensed contractor is responsible for construction methods, grading, drainage, structural elements, permits, and code compliance.
The full path
Steps 2 through 4, with your palette credited. Compare with a Transformation design, which starts at $3,000.
What about paths and other hardscape?
Small Scope can include simple features that support your planting:
- An entry path or stepping stone path through the garden
- Stormwater features like a rain garden or swale
- Placement for edible garden beds
