Outdoor living, rooted in ecological design

Hi, I'm Jordan

I studied international relations and environmental science and policy at Cal State Long Beach. I was always drawn to issues where people and the environment intersect, and I wanted to do my part to improve the systems behind them.

For years, the work that paid the bills and the work I cared about were two different things. I spent fifteen years in hospitality, which taught me to read people and take care of them. On the side, I built raised beds and furniture from reclaimed wood, hand lettered chalkboard menus, and volunteered with environmental organizations from Medellín to San Francisco. What I was really looking for was work that could do good for people and the planet and still pay the bills.

Landscape design is where it all came together. I learned the trade on real projects at a design build company in the Texas Hill Country, designing in 3D, bidding jobs, and working alongside install crews. Then I came home to Long Beach and started Sage Coast.

What I do best is layout: making sure every part of a yard flows, and that each detail of how you'll use it has been thought through. Ecology runs through all of it, and I reach for California natives first.

I'm a Theodore Payne certified Native Landscape Professional and treasurer of the APLD Greater LA District board. When I'm not designing, I'm usually at the dog beach with my dog, Harper.
